White horses and black bulls, pink flamingos in the salt water of the Ètangs: La Camargue the Rhône Delta in southern France. Here, where between lavender and oleanders the Rosé wine tastes best with fresh shrimp, the Andalusian flamenco set foot through roaming Gypsies – los Gitanos. And here it was that through influences of the chanson this wonderful Moorish French music came into existance, and made the Gipsy Kings famous all over the world.
Felipe Sauvageon, who grew up in Arles with the Gypsy Kings and has been living in Germany for many years, plays and sings the typical Camarague – Flamenco authenisch and with passion. He has also studied classical guitar at the Conservatorium and now likes to mix flamenco with jazz or African elements. In 20 years of concert activity in Latin America “El Sauvageon” has also worked out a great South American repertoire. He also leads the Group Laїlo and The Allstars of Gipsy.

The Allstars of Gipsy
La Provence – intense lavender blue and bright sunflower yellow, the intoxicating aroma of Mediterranean herbs, the taste of olives, Moungetes, Shrimp and Rosé wine. In the chirping of cicadas, all of a sudden you can hear the sound of the guitar : hard Flamenco chords. Flamenco in southern France?
For generations, the Spanish Calé Gypsies migrated to France, especially during the persecutions by the Franco regime. And they brought the flamenco with them. In the heart of the Camargue lies the sanctuary of Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, where, since the 15. century. every year in may 20.000 gypsies from all over Europe come to see their saint patron, the black Sara. This is where the flamenco got it's southern France “Brillo”, the charm of the chanson, the fusion of Eastern Roma music but still maintained its Moorish Andalusian character. The legendary Gypsy guitarist Manitas de Plata from Montpellier and the Gipsy Kings of Arles made this beautiful music famous.
In Arles you can find the old farmhouse of the family Régis – Mas de la Bohéme. In mother Régis’ kitchen you can find – almost every day – some of the best professional musicians with their guitars. They are part of the Gipsy Kings, Los Reyes, LAЇLO or Chico and the Gypsies. But here they play 'avec le coer d’un gitan' (with the heart of a gypsy) for themselves and their family.
With the all-stars of Gipsy Mario Régis and Felipe Sauvageon bring exactly this music on the stage and to the heart of an international audience. A brilliant concert was played by group as a quartet at the Capitol in Mannheim, You can listen to it in these live samples:
